Rowan’s Playoff Ride Ends in Sweet 16 Defeat

The Profs dropped their Sweet 16 game to the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.  Although they produced a gallant effort, they were ultimately outclassed by the #2 ranked team in the nation.  Mary Washington’s varsity  status and 11 international players proved too much of a hurdle for the  Profs.

Although the Profs fell in the match, the margin of victory was Mary Washington’s lowest all season.  On Sunday, Mary Washington beat the #1 ranked team in the nation by the same 31 point margin.  Moreover, St. Joe’s also advanced to the fall DIAA championship game.  This means that the Profs were eliminated from playoff contention by the two teams that will compete for the fall DIAA championship title.  Rowan has clearly shown they belong on the national stage.

The players and coaches would like to thank the Bergers and Dormanns who traveled all the way to the University of Miami Ohio to cheer the Profs on; along with alums, Sean Hanson, Matt Bettin, Sam Touroonjian (all the way from Atlanta!) and Eric Shubiak who also were on hand to lend their support.  They would also like to give special thanks to Tracy Wilhelm for all her hard work this year as the Boosters chair.  She was the team’s unsung hero.

Rowan has made a positive, important first step in their inaugural DIAA season and showed that they can continue their winning ways at a higher level.  Well done to the 2017 Profs!
