Profs Claim Bowl in Bermuda

The young Rowan rugby squad traveled to the International 7s Tournament in Bermuda and came home with the Bowl title.  The team steadily improved throughout the weekend.  Here is the match by match recap provided by Coach Smith.

Friday Night:

1st match was against Chesapeake All Stars 1. Rowan came out a little rusty, but then settled down and played our system only to come up short with a 17-12 loss.

2nd match was against a much bigger team, Norwich 1, the eventual winner of the tournament. It was a physical game with back and forth tries. Norwich scored on the last play of the game to win. 19-14

3rd match was against Columbia 2. Rowan, after losing 2 close games against very good teams, dominated the ball for  most of the game for the 1st win. 28-12

Saturday:

With a 1-2 record on Fri. night Rowan was seeded 9th.

1st match was against Colgate 1. Again Rowan controlled the tempo of the game and played more confidently for a 24-12 win.

2nd match was against Norwich 2. Rowan rolled past this team 54-0.

3rd match for the Bowl vs Chesapeake All Stars 2. There was no stopping Rowan as they had everything working. All the plays that we put in worked to perfection and the Bowl was Rowan’s. 22-12

Captain, Armani Mendez was MVP of the team for the weekend. His leadership on and off the field is so valuable. Everyone had great performances throughout the day. They played as a team and that’s what got them through the tournament.  Freshman, Conner Weatherby, made an impression through solid play and excellent defensive play on his way to scoring his 1st try.
