The Rowan Men’s Rugby team suffered a home defeat Saturday, losing 41-25 to defending conference champions, St. Joseph’s University.
The scoreline does not quite reflect how close this contest was in the end. St. Joseph’s jumped out to a 12-0 lead early in the first half before the Profs fought back to even the score at 15-15 just before halftime. Unfortunately, a failure to catch the ensuing kickoff led to a penalty which led to a try to make the score 20-15 at halftime.
The teams battled back and forth in the second half in what became a heated game involving off-the-ball incidents and bad blood between the teams. The difference in the contest was the Profs’ failure to maintain discipline. Two Rowan players were yellow carded. St. Joseph’s scored 21 points while the Profs played down a man, thus sealing their fate and ended the game as a contest.
Rowan enters a bye week before taking on the Temple Owls in two weeks. The team will be looking to get the season back on track and look forward to large supporting section joining them!
