New Program Leadership and Coaches in 2021

In January 2021, Tim Smith took over as Director of Rugby and assumed the Head Coaching position for the program. Coach Smith is no stranger to Rowan Rugby, as he has been the Head Coach for the 7’s team since its inception in 2014. We’d like to take a moment to thank our previous Director and 15’s Head Coach, Scott Wilson for his hard work and dedication to growing the program over the past 3 years.

As Coach Smith’s first order of business in 2021, he went to work on bolstering the coaching Staff. Joining the Profs on a part time basis are local coaching legend Chris “Pudge” Ryan, Prof Alumni standouts JC Carr and Lawrence Quinn, and Roger Howell.

Coach Ryan comes to Rowan as one of the most respected coaches in the country. He has led teams to countless national championships as a head or assistant coach in both 7’s and 15’s. He previously was Head Coach for Princeton University Women’s Rugby, Assistant Coach for the US Women’s 7’s team, as well as coach for several territorial all-star teams. When he’s not helping the Prof’s, Coach Ryan can be seen coaching for the famed US Select side, Atlantis, coaching Schuylkill River Men’s 7’s and the Conestoga High School Program.

After a standout career at Rowan where he was a captain and led the team to National Championship playoffs in both 15’s and 7’s, Coach Carr enrolled at Life University. There he would go on to win a D1 National Championship and eventually captain their Men’s program. A recent graduate from Life’s Chiropractic school, he has recently begun practicing in New Jersey.

Coach Quinn comes to the program also after a standout career with the Profs. Coach Quinn co-captained the team with Coach Carr and helped to lead the 15s and 7s teams to numerous National playoff appearances. Coach Quinn will focus on new players.

Coach Howell comes to the program after an extensive playing and coaching career with Jersey Shore Men’s and Cape and Atlantic Storm HS Rugby programs. More recently Coach Howell completed his Level 300 Coaching certification through USA Rugby and will look to use that as he helps with our forwards.
