Bill Stom joined the Rowan staff as an assistant coach with the 15’s program in 2012 and has since focused his efforts as the team Defensive coach as well as the Backs coach. In 2016, after returning from living for a year in the UK, Coach Stom joined the 7’s staff. When not providing technical instruction, he can often be heard focusing players on game day mental preparation. With close to a decade of coaching experience (collegiate and men’s club) and fifteen plus years as a player (Men’s Super League, DII, DIII) he brings to the program a wealth of experience and knowledge.
After moving to New Jersey in 2001, Coach Stom picked up playing rugby with the South Jersey RFC. He spent most of his time as the Devil’s fly-half for the15’s and 7’s teams and was voted Club Captain in 2003 and 2006. He has played with the club on international tours to Scotland (2003) and the Bahamas (2009). In 2007, Stom spent a season traveling around the United States, playing with and against several USA Eagles and former international professional players as part of the Super League Club, Philadelphia-Whitemarsh. In 2008, Stom moved to rural Castleton, Virginia and spent two seasons playing with Warrenton RFC, leading them to an undefeated DIII PRU season and the MARFU Semi-finals. In both his seasons with Warrenton, Stom was voted Club MVP. In 2010, Stom returned to his rugby roots and moved back to the area and picked up playing with South Jersey Men. Although mostly retired from competitive playing, he can occasionally be seen pulling on a jersey and stepping out on the pitch. In 2015, Coach Stom had an opportunity to live in the London area via a work assignment. Motivated by the World Cup (hosted by England), Coach Stom laced up the boots and returned to full competition, playing with St. Albans RFC in 2015-2016.
Coach Stom is a USA Rugby level 200 certified coach.
Prior to coaching at Rowan, he was a former head coach for the South Jersey RFC 7’s program.
Coach Stom is 1999 graduate of King’s College where he earned Academic All-American honors as part of the wrestling team. He lives in Sewell with his wife, Kristy and son, Ronan and works in the Biopharmaceutical industry.
